Privacy Policy
We are committed to respecting your privacy.
General
Brawer Software does not receive or store user data. Personal information is not kept outside of user product license registrations and support communications. uBar is available by direct download, the Mac App Store, and Setapp. The uBar application does not collect user data.
macOS Permissions
uBar needs two macOS permissions to work: Accessibility, to manage your windows, and Screen & System Audio Recording, to show window previews.
A few more are optional and only used by the features that need them: Automation to empty the Trash, Full Disk Access to show what’s in the Trash, Bluetooth to list your devices, Calendars to show upcoming events, and Microphone so you can talk to Command.
Nothing uBar accesses through these permissions leaves your Mac, with one exception: if you use Command with uBar Cloud or your own API key, the text of your request is sent to that service to be processed. Your voice is always transcribed on your Mac and never leaves it. You can review permissions anytime in the Permissions pane of uBar’s Settings.
Transmission
uBar only connects to the internet in these cases:
Updates. If “Check for updates automatically” is enabled, uBar checks the Brawer Software server for new versions. When you update, uBar downloads the new version.
Model downloads. When you set up Command or Voice to run on your Mac, uBar downloads the models from Hugging Face. Once downloaded, they run entirely on your Mac.
uBar Cloud. If you use Command with uBar Cloud, your requests are sent to Brawer Software’s servers to be processed. Speech is always transcribed on your Mac, so only the text of your request is sent, never your voice. uBar Cloud has zero data retention: your requests and their responses are never stored, by Brawer Software or by our AI provider. Your own API key. If you connect Command to an AI provider with your own API key, the text of your requests goes directly from your Mac to that provider and is covered by their privacy policy. It never passes through Brawer Software.
When Command runs on your Mac, your requests are processed entirely on your Mac and never sent anywhere. Actions Command takes for you, like opening a website, connect to the internet just as they would if you did them yourself.
Service Providers
We use a small number of service providers to run uBar and uBar Cloud, such as our hosting and email providers. Our servers are located in Canada. uBar Cloud requests are processed in the United States by our AI providers, Together AI and Cerebras, which do not store them. Purchases are processed by Paddle, our Merchant of Record, under its own privacy policy.
